TRIZ is the Russian acronym for Inventive Problem Solving Theory (Teorija Reshenija Izobretateliskih Zadatch). It is a heuristic approach intended to solve innovation problems, mainly technical ones. It was developed from 1946 by the Soviet engineer Genrich Altshuller. TRIZ considers that the problems encountered during the design of a new product present analogies with others and that analogous solutions must be able to apply. TRIZ's ambition is to foster creativity by offering engineers and inventors tools to unlock mental inertia.
